Travel Medicine

Planning a trip?

If you are planning an overseas trip, there are many considerations of the potential risks associated with mode of travel, accommodation, activities abroad, local disease patterns and prevention of problems.
We suggest having a consultation especially if you already have medical challenges, and or are travelling to areas where diseases are more common

Consultations

Travel consults are comprehensive and require additional paperwork. These are double appointments, therefore please make your booking with reception rather than online. Please also note, these appointments are not a general medical service and are not subsidised, therefore the higher fee applies.

Currently, we only take bookings for our own enrolled patients.

Due to the length of appointment, anytime an appointment is booked but patient does not attend and appointment was not cancelled at least 24 hours prior, we will charge a $100.00 cancellation fee.

Please note: The consultation fee does NOT cover the cost of prescription medicines, necessary vaccines and blood tests that may be recommended.
Vaccines are a prescription medicine and require a GP/Nurse prescriber consultation.

Be prepared

Ideally travel consultations should occur 6-8 weeks pre travel.
Last minute travel consultations may compromise full protection from vaccinations specific to your itiner
ary

Travel Questionnaire

Please complete the Pre-travel Questionnaire for each adult and child travelling and return to your GP preferably at least 48hrs before the day of your booked Travel consultation appointment. If the forms is not submitted by this time, this may result in a longer consult and higher fee. Please ensure, the questionnaire is completed and set as requested above.

Travel and Vaccines

Specific areas of the world have greater risk of specific diseases than here in Aotearoa.
If you are travelling to countries in Asia, Middle East, and Africa then a good place to consider what risks to avoid with vaccines is
CDC Travelers Health site.

Enter the country or countries you are heading to and it will list the risk factors to consider and the appropriate vaccines.
Please call reception and talk to us for further advice, and how we can help you with these, and the costs involved.
